We’re so glad you’re here.
What is the PCUSA?
At the core of Presbyterian identity is a secure hope in the grace of God in Jesus Christ, a hope that, by the power of the Holy Spirit, empowers us to live lives of gratitude: “In affirming with the earliest Christians that Jesus is Lord, the Church confesses that he is its hope, and that the Church, as Christ’s body, is bound to his authority and thus free to live in the lively, joyous reality of the grace of God.” (Book of Order F-1.0204)
What time is your Sunday worship?
We have two services each Sunday. From September to May*, our 8:30 am service is quiet and contemplative. Our 11:00 am service includes a choir, a children’s message, and activities for children.
*In summer from Memorial Day to Labor Day weekends, worship is held at 8:00 am in the courtyard and 9:30 am in the sanctuary.
Where are you located?
The church is located at the intersection of Duke of Gloucester and Conduit Streets in historic, downtown Annapolis. Access the main sanctuary doors from Duke of Gloucester Street. An accessible entrance, including an elevator, is available at our Conduit Street entrance. Our official mailing address is 171 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis MD 21401. Click here for a downloadable campus map.
What offerings are there for children, babies and toddlers?
Nursery care is provided for both infants and toddlers (to age 4) from 8:30 a.m. until the conclusion of the 11 am service each week. The nurseries are located in the conduit. Our infant nursery has several cribs and infant toys and is staffed by a trained and highly skilled caregiver. Our older nursery, located in the next room, offers a spacious play area with many fun, interactive toys for the children. Children are always welcome in worship at both services! During the 11 AM worship service there is a program for children grades K-5 called Crossroads.
Who attends the church?
We have a mixture of people. Our congregation truly spans the ages, from newborns to folks in their 80s. You’ll find just about every type of person here – married, single, divorced, widowed – professionals, workers, retired – life-long Annapolis residents and those who have just recently moved to the area. But even more important than the kind of people who go here is the kind of people who are welcome here – everyone! We are LGBTQ+-affirming.
Where do I park?
The Hillman Garage is OPEN! Located at 150 Gorman Street, Annapolis MD 21401, there are TWO entrances (one from Main Street and the the second from Duke of Gloucester, across from the sanctuary doors). Parking is free on Sunday mornings until 1:00 pm but payment information will be requested upon entry (in case cars remain beyond 1:00 pm).
For those who need handicapped parking, there are six spaces in the church driveway off of Conduit Street. Anyone with a current handicap tag is welcome, conveniently adjacent to the main building elevator.
Do I have to belong to your denomination to attend?
Not at all! In fact, many in our congregation come from a church background other than the PCUSA. We have many former Catholics, Lutherans, Baptists and Methodists. We are a “patchwork” church – people with different church backgrounds “woven together” by God’s grace. Our communion table is also open to all.
What kind of things happen in worship?
We strive to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere at First Presbyterian. We greet each other so everyone feels welcomed; we share announcements and church news; we sing and listen to our choir perform beautiful music; we share the congregation’s joys and concerns and lift them to God in prayer; we read the Bible and talk about it through the sermon; we collect an offering to further God’s work.
